China Camp State Park is a 1,514-acre state park along the shoreline of San Pablo Bay in San Rafael, California, encompassing historic Chinese American shrimp-fishing village remains, tidal salt marshes, oak woodlands, and meadows. The park offers accessible parking near multiple trailheads, including generally accessible parking near the Turtle Back Nature Trail trailhead and along the Shoreline Trail. Accessible restrooms are available at the Back Ranch Meadows campground and throughout the day-use areas including China Camp Point and China Camp Village. The Turtle Back Nature Trail is a 0.70-mile accessible loop trail along the shoreline with a compacted aggregate, rock, and wood surface, generally flat at less than 5% grade with some intermittent sections up to 8%. An interpretive audio tour is available for this trail. The Shoreline Trail is also designated as an accessible out-and-back trail, 1.47 miles each way, with compacted aggregate surface and generally flat grades under 5%.
The park provides two beach wheelchairs available for loan at the Quan Bros. snack shop on Saturdays and Sundays between 9am and 5pm. Accessible campsites with accessible tables, water faucets, fire pits, and tent spaces are available at Back Ranch Meadows, and routes between sites and supporting facilities are described as usable. Bullhead Flats has a usable accessible site with a generally accessible restroom and parking. Recent ADA enhancements have been made at the park, including to parking and restrooms. Day-use access fees are $3 per person for trail use or $5 per vehicle for parking plus trail access; reduced-rate passes are available for seniors and qualifying veterans.
Visitors report that the accessible campsites can accommodate users with walkers and wheelchairs, and that restrooms throughout the park are generally clean and well maintained. Some visitors note that all campsites are walk-in, requiring gear to be carried 50–300 yards from the parking lot, which may present challenges even at designated accessible sites. The Turtle Back Nature Trail is widely noted as an easy, welcoming route for visitors of varying mobility levels, with interpretive panels along the way.
