Musée Mécanique

Overview

Musée Mécanique is a free-admission, for-profit interactive museum at Pier 45 on Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, housing one of the world’s largest privately owned collections of over 300 coin-operated mechanical musical instruments and antique arcade machines. The museum is wheelchair accessible, and the single-level warehouse floor provides a flat, navigable layout for visitors using mobility devices. Restrooms are available on site. Admission is free for all visitors, and the individual machines operate on coins (typically 25–50 cents each), with change machines available on site.

The museum is housed indoors in a waterfront warehouse setting, offering a level, single-floor experience. It is easily reachable by public transit, including the F Market & Wharves streetcar and several Muni bus routes, and parking is available in nearby garages in the Fisherman’s Wharf area.

Visitors note that while the space is generally wheelchair accessible, the aisles between vintage machines can become tight and crowded, particularly on weekends and during peak tourist hours — those with larger mobility devices or strollers may find some areas more challenging to navigate. Some visitors also note that many of the vintage machines are tall, which may limit interaction for some wheelchair users.
