Cabrillo Beach

Cabrillo Beach is a public beach in San Pedro, California, operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. The beach features two distinct areas separated by the Cabrillo Beach Pier: an outer beach facing the open ocean and an inner beach with calmer waters, popular with families and swimmers. The adjacent Cabrillo Marine Aquarium adds to the recreational draw of the area. The park includes accessible parking spaces, paved pathways connecting key areas, and accessible restroom facilities maintained by LA Parks.

The Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse and surrounding facilities have undergone renovations as part of LA Parks capital improvement efforts. Beach wheelchairs (loaner mobility aids) are available for borrowing, allowing visitors with mobility needs to access the shoreline. Accessible picnic areas and rest areas are present near the beach facilities. Service animals are welcome throughout the park in accordance with ADA and City of Los Angeles policy.

Visitors report that the inner beach area is generally calmer and easier to navigate for those with mobility considerations, with firmer sand closer to the water’s edge. The parking lot can fill up quickly on summer weekends, so arriving early is recommended. The paved paths near the aquarium and bathhouse are well-maintained, though the soft sand itself presents challenges beyond the paved areas.
