Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a compact, 1.3-acre traditional Japanese-style garden located on the California State University, Long Beach campus. Admission is free for all visitors, though reservations are always required in advance. All garden paths are firm concrete with level surfaces, making the garden navigable for wheelchair users, visitors with mobility aids, and families with strollers. Benches throughout the garden offer places to rest. Accessible restrooms are available on site, and accessible parking is available on the CSULB campus, with the G4 lot directly across from the garden being the closest option.

Visitors are encouraged to call ahead or book via the garden’s mobile app or online portal to confirm hours, as the garden is frequently closed for private events and programs. Service animals are welcome throughout the garden in accordance with ADA guidelines.

While all walking paths are firm concrete, some planted areas near the pond and garden edges are natural, uneven ground off the main paths. The garden’s compact, peaceful setting is generally described as calm and uncrowded, particularly on weekday mornings.
