Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden

Overview

The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a 127-acre botanical garden and historical site in Arcadia, California. Designated accessible parking is located near the front entrance, and paved roads throughout the garden provide access to many landscape areas. Service animals are welcome; all other animals including emotional support and comfort animals are not permitted under ADA guidelines. A tram tour is available for visitors who prefer not to walk the full garden — staff should be notified in advance if a wheelchair seat on the tram is required, as these are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that there is a 15½-inch step from the ground to the tram seating platform. The Arboretum offers reduced-rate admissions for seniors (62+) and students with ID, and free admission programs including EBT cardholders (up to two adults and four children under 18) and a free admission day on the third Tuesday of each month (advance reservations required).

Wheelchairs are not currently available to rent at the Arboretum. A wheelchair lift at the Queen Anne Cottage is currently closed for restoration. The garden’s paved road network allows wheelchair users to navigate independently across many areas of the 127-acre site. Visitors may also explore the garden on foot via numerous pathways. The Arboretum does not publish details about restrooms, hearing loops, sensory programs, or other communication accessibility features on its official accessibility page.

Visitors report that the paved roads and paths make the garden reasonably manageable for wheelchair users, though some areas of the garden involve natural terrain. Weekday visits are noted as notably quieter and less crowded than weekends.
