Lands End Lookout

Overview

Lands End Lookout is a visitor center and overlook area within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco, managed by the National Park Service. The facility serves as the gateway to the Lands End trail area, offering dramatic views of the Golden Gate and the Marin Headlands. The visitor center building is accessible, with accessible restrooms available on site. Paved, level pathways connect the parking area and visitor center, and accessible parking spaces are provided in the adjacent lot. The surrounding Lands End trail network includes some unpaved and rugged terrain, though the immediate overlook area near the visitor center is navigable for many visitors.

Service animals are welcome throughout the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The visitor center offers interpretive exhibits about the natural and cultural history of the area. Admission to Lands End and the visitor center is free to all visitors.

Visitors note that while the lookout and visitor center area itself is relatively accessible with paved surfaces and level ground, the coastal trails extending from the area are rocky and uneven in places, making them challenging for visitors using mobility devices. The parking lot can fill quickly on weekends, so visiting during weekday mornings is suggested for a less crowded experience.
