Metreon

Metreon is a four-story vertical shopping and entertainment complex in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood, home to a 16-screen AMC Theater (featuring the largest IMAX in North America), City Target, and over twenty restaurants and eateries. The building offers ADA access from all entrances, with two passenger elevators and escalators connecting all floors. Ramps, accessible restrooms, and wheelchair-accessible routes are available throughout the complex. The AMC Metreon 16 theater features wheelchair-accessible seating, assistive listening devices, closed captioning devices, and audio description equipment. Only service animals are permitted on Metreon property. The Fifth and Mission Garage — the largest public parking structure in the city — is directly across the street and includes accessible parking options.

The building’s entry is step-free with an ADA-compliant main entrance, making it navigable for wheelchair and mobility aid users across all levels. The AMC theater offers reserved wheelchair seating and supports open caption (on-screen subtitles) screenings in addition to its closed caption device lending. Weekdays and early afternoons tend to be less crowded than evenings and weekends.

Visitors note that the theater’s IMAX and recliner seating areas are easy to navigate, and the building’s elevators provide reliable access to all floors including the fourth-floor City View event space. Some visitors report that parking costs at nearby garages can be high, and that closed caption device availability at the AMC has occasionally been inconsistent.
