USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum

The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum is a National and State Historic Landmark aircraft carrier museum docked in Alameda, CA. As a historic ship, the majority of spaces are accessible only via steep stairs or ladders, but the museum has made meaningful accommodations for mobility-impaired visitors. Accessible parking with disability plates or placards is available at the entrance of the pier and on the pier itself. A scissor lift may be available (subject to tidal conditions) to bring mobility-impaired guests and an escort from the pier to the Hangar Deck; this can be requested upon arrival by contacting the Security Desk. The Hangar Deck features loaner wheelchairs, accessible restrooms, and several aircraft on display including propeller planes, helicopters, and jets, as well as Apollo and Gemini program artifacts. The permanent exhibit Splashdown: Apollo Recovery and a rotating exhibition gallery are also accessible from the Hangar Deck. Service animals as defined by the ADA — trained dogs and, in some cases, miniature horses — are welcome aboard.

Visitors should be aware that most of the ship’s areas beyond the Hangar Deck are only reachable via steep ladders and narrow passageways with raised thresholds. The scissor lift is tide-dependent and not guaranteed to be available. Emotional support animals, therapy animals, and pets are not permitted.
