Crissy Field

Crissy Field is a 100-acre waterfront park and former U.S. Army airfield within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, situated along San Francisco’s northern shoreline with iconic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and Alcatraz. The park is free to enter and offers strong physical accessibility throughout. Accessible parking spaces are available at the East Beach parking lot (free) and at the paid lot beside the West Bluff Picnic Area. Accessible restrooms are located at East Beach, the Warming Hut, and the Golden Gate Bridge Plaza. Most pathways throughout Crissy Field are generally level, and the 2.3-mile Crissy Field Promenade has an average slope of 0% and a minimum width of 60 inches, making it one of the most accessible waterfront trails in the Bay Area. The promenade includes compacted decomposed granite, raised boardwalks, and asphalt sections. Picnic areas at both East Beach and West Bluff feature wheelchair-accessible tables with companion seating.

East Beach offers a large universally accessible picnic site and a seasonal beach mat. Two beach wheelchairs are available by reservation (five days advance notice required) for pickup at Fort Mason, Building 201. The Crissy Field Center gathering spaces and conference rooms are equipped with an Assisted Listening System (ALS). A free accessible shuttle from downtown San Francisco serves the Presidio and can accommodate two wheelchairs per vehicle. Scenic overlooks along the Presidio Promenade, including Crissy Field Overlook, accommodate wheelchair access. A large 3D bronze tactile model of the Presidio with Braille labels is located at Presidio Plaza near the Visitor Center.

Visitors report that the flat walking paths and open layout make the park very easy to navigate for wheelchair users and those with mobility considerations. Accessible boardwalk extensions toward the beach provide a beach-adjacent experience without the challenge of sand. Weekends can get crowded, particularly at East Beach picnic areas.
