Golden Gate Theatre is a historic 2,297-seat Broadway house in San Francisco’s Theater District, managed by BroadwaySF and operated by Ambassador Theatre Group. The theatre offers wheelchair accessible seating on the Orchestra level only — there are no elevators to the mezzanine, loge, or balcony levels. Two designated wheelchair areas are available: Integrated Row H (with fixed companion seats) and Platform Row ZZ at the rear of the Orchestra (with movable companion chairs). Wheelchair accessible seats and companion tickets are available at the ADA price (the lowest regular price for the performance). Limited Mobility Orchestra seats are also available for patrons who cannot use stairs. Accessible restrooms are located on the Orchestra level, across from Door 3. A drop-off area is located in front of the theatre on Golden Gate Ave. at Taylor St.
Infrared assistive listening headsets are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis from a kiosk in the lobby next to the “Enter Left” staircase — a valid ID is required as deposit. Closed captioning and audio descriptions are available via the free GalaPro app for select productions; device stands are provided at the lobby kiosk. Dedicated open caption and ASL-interpreted performances are scheduled for select shows — patrons should confirm dates when purchasing tickets. For audio-described performances, a free headset must be reserved in advance by requesting a headset ticket. Booster cushions are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis for patrons who have difficulty seeing over taller audience members. Service animals (guide dogs only) are permitted inside the theatre; pets, companion animals, and emotional support animals are not allowed.
Visitors report that the lack of elevator access significantly limits mobility options for those who cannot use stairs, as accessible seating is restricted to the Orchestra level. Some visitors note that the surrounding Mid-Market neighborhood warrants extra planning, particularly for evening performances.
