Overview

Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) is a major international and domestic airport serving the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The airport maintains ADA-compliant accessible curbside drop-off zones in front of both terminals, and accessible parking spaces are available in all public parking lots for vehicles displaying a valid disability placard or license plate, with the closest spaces to the terminals located in the Hourly Lot. All airport restrooms are equipped with accessible stalls for persons with disabilities, and family restrooms are available throughout both terminals. A permanent lactation suite is located by the family restrooms at Gate 7 in Terminal 1, and a lactation pod is available in Terminal 2 between gates 25 and 26. Service animal relief areas are available both inside and outside the terminals — two outdoors (one at each terminal exterior) and one indoors near Gate 25 in Terminal 2. Wheelchair assistance is provided by airlines and is available from the curbside at Southwest Airlines in Terminal 2, and from ticket counters in Terminal 1.

OAK offers free visual interpretation services for blind and low-vision travelers through the Aira app, available 24/7, 365 days a year with no advance reservation required. The Aira visual interpreter service connects users with professional agents who can describe surroundings, read signage, and assist with navigation throughout the airport. Additionally, OAK expanded its Aira partnership in September 2025 to include free, on-demand ASL interpretation via the Aira ASL app for Deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers. This service connects users with certified sign language interpreters via live video call directly from a smartphone, and is available anywhere on airport property at no cost with no advance notice required. Language interpretation services are also offered for all passengers at Information Booths in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
