Dolores Park

Mission Dolores Park is a free, 16-acre public park in San Francisco’s Mission District, managed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Admission is free for all visitors. The park features an ADA-compliant main entrance with no steps or stairs, and a dedicated accessible loading zone on Dolores Street with curb cuts and sidewalk modifications leading to the park entrance. From the accessible entrance, an ADA-accessible pathway connects to the Helen Diller Playground children’s play area. The lower tier of the playground’s boat structure is wheelchair accessible, enabling children of all abilities to participate. The park also contains two public restroom areas with accessible hours, and the J-Church Muni Metro line stops directly at the park’s western border, providing accessible public transit access.

The park’s terrain is characterized by a strong slope from the southwest to the northeast, which limits paved level access to portions of the park rather than the full grounds. ADA improvements completed during the major renovation (completed 2016) focused on the accessible loading zone on Dolores Street and the accessible path to the playground area. Service animals are welcome throughout the park. Street parking is available on surrounding streets, though availability can be limited on busy days.

Visitors note that while the main entrance and playground area are accessible, the park’s hilly terrain means wheelchair users may find navigation challenging beyond the designated accessible paths. Some visitors recommend weekday mornings for a less crowded experience. The park is widely considered dog-friendly and good for families with children.
