The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is the largest museum dedicated to the history and art of filmmaking in Los Angeles. It offers extensive accessibility services for visitors with disabilities.
The museum has no on-site parking. An accessible rideshare/drop-off zone is on Roddenberry Lane, entrance on Fairfax Avenue (daily 10am–6pm, closed Tuesdays). For accessible self-parking, the LACMA Pritzker Garage (6000 W 6th St) has accessible spots on P1 next to the elevators, and the Onyx Garage (6100 Wilshire Blvd, weekends only) has accessible spots on P1, P3, and P4. The Petersen Automotive Museum Garage (744 Fairfax Ave) also has accessible spots, but on P1 only and with no garage elevator — worth knowing if you’re parking with a wheeled mobility device. Street parking is available on Orange Grove Ave or 8th Street.
Accessible routes run throughout the building. Staff can provide loaner mobility aids on request.
The museum offers captioning for screenings and programs. Audio guides, assistive listening devices, and sign language interpreters are also available.
Staff distribute sensory bags at the entrance. A social narrative helps visitors prepare for their visit before they arrive. The museum identifies less crowded times for visitors who benefit from a quieter environment.
The museum offers free admission for eligible visitors. Service animals are welcome.
Visitor reports describe the building as highly navigable for wheelchair users, with the Renzo Piano-designed complex featuring elevators and level transitions between the Saban Building and the Sphere structure. The Calm Mornings monthly program — which opens certain galleries an hour early with moderated sound and lighting — is specifically noted by visitors as well-run for neurodivergent visitors and families. Note: the museum is closed Tuesdays.
